Who Am I, O Lord God?
Life comes at us fast. In this Wednesday night study, Pastor Brian Mathews opens with a hospital waiting room, a young paramedic's death, and the question adversity always asks: do we really believe what we say we believe? From there the study turns to 2 Samuel 7, where God tells David He will build him a house — not a building, but a dynasty. It is the earliest prediction of the Messiah in Scripture, given more than a thousand years before Christ, and it points to a King who now sits enthroned at the right hand of the Father. David's response is a prayer of stunning humility: "Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far?" He knows that everything good in him came from God. Two generations later, Solomon forgets — and a kingdom at its glory falls apart. The warning lands close to home. We are most vulnerable when we are most blessed. Pastor Brian calls the church to recognize where our blessings come from, to take prayerlessness seriously as sin, and to guard our hearts from anything that slowly turns them away from the Father.
