Glory alone” is a phrase that echoes through the pages of Scripture and the history of faith. It’s a reminder that, above all else, our lives are meant to reflect and honor the infinite majesty of God, not to gain praise for ourselves or to secure our own accomplishments. In the Psalms, we hear David declare, “Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Your name give glory” (Psalm 115:1). It’s a simple but profound truth: all glory belongs to Him.
In our world, filled with noise and constant striving, we often find ourselves tempted to claim a bit of that glory for ourselves—but God’s glory isn’t something we’re called to share in that way; it’s something we’re called to reflect. In our culture, we are constantly told that there are many ways to reach God, that we can craft our own truth, or that salvation is found in our good works, personal success, or spiritual experiences. But the gospel presents a radically different message. It tells us that no human effort, no amount of good deeds, no philosophy or religious system can bridge the gap between sinful humanity and a holy God.
